40 great nail art ideas- Christmas

Wow. Christmas. That is all lol.

Busy, busy...goes with the time of year i guess. But i did get a chance to paint my nails for a ringers social type thing on Monday so here's Christmas.

It couldn't get much simpler. Maybelline black out, maybelline winner takes it all and a little brush. Oh and some tape to keep the Christmas trees rectangular.

Not the most festive colours exactly but i just really love black and gold together haha.

I think my brain still hasn't caught on to the idea of Christmas yet. Though I'll be working and we're celebrating on Monday instead anyway so eh. Lol. I really should finish my Christmas shopping i guess!

Oh well. Have a lovely one! x

40 great nail art ideas- winter

Lalala this will be a proper post at some point. Things got rather busier than I'd anticipated and i missed last week so here's a two for one:

Winter is coming plus last week which was glitter topper + decal. And it's shite. But stamping isn't something i do often (i bought two new plates recently and that doubled my collection haha). So. Here i made stamping decals with one of the moyou london pro collection but i forget which. And the moyou london black polish. The snowflakes are a moyou london nature plate but again who knows which? And moyou london white polish.

Other polishes. Nails Inc regent's place (base), maybelline winner takes all (gold), Tara talons naughty or nice (red and green glitter) and model's own jack frost (background glitter).

I'm not all that pleased but i didn't want to miss another week. I'm repeating myself. Must make time for this challenge this week. Hourly I'll come back and edit this post at some point too but in really tired right now haha. x

40 great nail art ideas- cartoons and comics

Oh dear, I'm very late this week! It's all been a bit busy. Ho hum.

So I'm not a massive comic reader. Or a comic reader full stop actually (and i totally blanked the cartoons part of the prompt and forgot it existed, oops lol). So i think the last time i read a comic was when i was very small and we used to go to the local newsagents and buy sweeties (sherbet pips please!) And I'd get Twinkle and baby brother would get the Beano.

Knowing myself as a kid i expect i probably enjoyed Jonny's Beano as much as i enjoyed Twinkle. But i do still remember it, and Nurse Nancy and the teddy bear hospital. I dressed up as her once on a holiday to Pontins :p.

So polishes. *think* lol. The base is Barry m coconut. The blue is model's own feeling blue, two barry m browns are cocoa and cappuccino, yellow is nails Inc Carnaby street, red is nails Inc st James, face is model's own naked glow and nails Inc Brompton place and black and white are acrylics. Phew. I don't think i missed any.

Oh well I've enjoyed my trip down memory lane, even if the resultant mani is a little scruffy haha. x

40 great nail art ideas- grey + colour

So we're back to colour prompts. I knew straight away that i wanted to use a neon for the colour aspect, it's wildly unseasonal but i just love the contrast of neons with grey. My prompt of circles on the other hand i didn't have a clue about. Literally even as i started painting the circles i had no clue where i was going with it haha.

I kind of quite like the pattern on the thumb and ring but i was getting on for midnight by that point and i was lazy haha. So i went for really simple in the others.

The grey is Barry m pit stop and im not that keen on it tbh. It looked pale grey in the bottle but it's come up taupe-y looking on my nails/in photos. Maybe it's the light. Actually even though i love barry m I'm not a massive fan of this fast drying collection all round. The neon though is beach bag from one of my favourite collections by model's own :).

Eh. I don't hate this mani but it doesn't excite me particularly either. Nvm.

40 great nail art ideas- your job

Ah i struggled so much to come up with anything for this! I work as a career, looking after elderly folk in the community. I kind of really love my job, and feel passionate about many things concerning it (dementia awareness, the crappy state of the social care system etc)...but the practicalities of it don't lend themselves well to nail art, nobody wants a commode painted in their fingertips haha. I considered several of the practical things i *could* pick out and paint but the whole idea didn't grab me. Those things aren't the reason i love what i do, you know?

So in the end i came up with this:

Basically just a selection of words that sum up what i *do* think it's important about my job. Respect and dignity and all those things that life seems to try to rob folk of.

And the hands. Man i struggled with those hands! They're meant to be holding hands. I think you can sort of tell that?

Actually, even though the hands are pretty crooked and the writing deteriorated as i went along (actually that's rather apt considering that's exactly what my handwriting does as i write notes throughout the day lol (except my handwriting is even scruffier (probably smaller too lol))), im pretty happy with this. Unlike that sentence which is a disaster lol. It turned out better then i expected anyway.

Polishes are nails Inc regent's place and barry m black grape. Very restrained haha. And it's definitely bed time now! Lol.

40 great nail art ideas- black and white

Phew. So I'm away on a ringing holiday atm. Which basically equals nothing but ringing for four days (liberally interspersed with tea and cake lol). So I'm late again. And my hands and cuticles are awful cos no amount of hand cream and cuticle oil can combat hours of grotty bell ropes haha.

Anyway my pattern prompt this week was 'chevrons'.

They're rather scruffier than I'd like cos holiday Inn doesn't deem it necessary to provide a chair and desk/table anywhere near each other lol. And this top coat is yuck cos it's about two hundred years old,i couldn't find my regular one wheni was packing lol.

Well that and i didn't really bring appropriate brushes and resorted to one i bought and never got round to removing from my handbag (i intended to tape and then cba to wait for them to dry dry enough lol). I do enjoy black white and hot pink together though :).

Right. Ding dong lol. x

40 great nail art ideas- Halloween

Ok so i admit it, I'm not really a huge fan of Halloween tbh. Spoil sport, right? Lol. I have nothing against it per se (and i do like an excuse to play dress up) it just doesn't excite me all that much. So i was a bit stuck for ideas. My initial plan was an apple bobbing themed 'pond mani' but that kind of failed haha (see end of post). So instead i found a matte black an some red and did something gory :p.

That's after clean up but actually i kind of prefer it before, for that extra gore factor lol.

I used one end of a revlon chalkboard nail art thingy (technical!) And barry m blood orange plus a little barry m dead heat on the index. Incidentally that finger was inspired somewhat by a couple of recent gory manis by piggie luv (and I'm really sorry i can't remember how to add the link on this app but Google her, she's seriously amazing).

I'm fairly happy with the result in the end, even if it was just randomly thrown together lol. The finger prints on my middle finger and thumb didn't show up great in the photos though. I'm a big murder mystery fan so this pleased me haha. Plus i did actually start training to be a forensic scientist dealing with crime scenes and evidence and such way back in the dim and distant past. My work area now looks rather like a crime scene itself tbh lol.

Oh and the less than successful plan A:

Now it's bed time....hopefully without nightmares! Haha.

40 great nail art ideas- orange, purple and green

Hmph the Internet cut out and ate my post. Helpful. Lol. Oh well. I'm late anyway so that'll teach me! i kind of threw a bit of strop about this one and nearly didn't bother. Bad katie haha.

I have no idea where exactly I'd be camouflaged with these colours! Lol. I dunno, i didn't love this prompt much, it's the sort of random, free form technique i find really difficult. Insecurity lol. I don't think it turned out too badly in the end though?

Polishes are barry m satsuma and spring green, model's own pukka purple and then maybelline color shock black out to create different shades.

Ho hum. Lol.

40 great nail art ideas- geeks

Wow, I'm not sure how another week has been and gone since the last time i did this challenge. And, oh look, I'm late again! Lol. Oh well, better luck next week.

So. Another theme week this week. And 'geeks'...which is far more vague than it sounds, as it turns out lol. I've been all I've the place with ideas for this mani. I'd finally decided on being a bell ringing geek and doing method themed nails again but then i had a sudden change of heart at the last minute.

So instead we have science.

In more detail we have a representation of Guanine on my thumb. This is a major component of DNA. It's called a nucleotide base and is one of four: A (adenosine) which pairs with T (thymine) and G (guanine) which pairs with C (cytosine). Or i think that's right. I'll stop there cos it's a bit late for a science lecture lol.

Index finger is the famous formula for working out energy, E. But I've whacked some brackets in and timesed it by two because i wanted 2E. Can you see where this is going? Lol.

The middle finger is a diagram of the electrons in an atom of potassium. It's a reactive metal in group 1 of the periodic table and has the chemical symbol K.

The ring finger is *supposed* to be a map of the human Y chromosome, but i copied an image from Wikipedia so it could be anything really :p. The Y chromosome is one of two chromosomes that determine gender, X and Y (like the Coldplay song haha), XX for a girl and XY for a boy.

Finally by the pinky i didn't really know what to do so i added the symbol for 'female'.

So we have:
Guanine- G
2x the formula for energy - EE
Potassium- K
Male chromosome- Y

GEEKY. Yay. Lol. And female symbol so i can be a geeky girl lol.

Polishes: base is Barry m road rage (cos it's what i had on already haha), white is nails Inc floral street, red is Barry m dead heat, blue is Barry m damson, grey is Barry m chai, lilac is Barry m prickly pear and the black is acrylic paint. Huh, i didn't think I'd used that many polishes lol.

Yea so this was seriously fiddly (those rings on potassium!) And it's so far from prefect it's untrue. But im still kind of pleased with it :).

World mental health day mani

Soo i haven't managed to post got many awareness days lately but i didn't want to miss this one.

The theme this year is dignity and I've been trying to put a post together on the subject but im really tired and brain just isn't cooperating so the nails will have to suffice till tomorrow :).

I was aiming for something a bit more....classy than my usual awareness manis. I'm not sure i quite managed that but i do quite like the result.

It had to be green because that's the colour for mental health awareness; the greens i chose are sinful colors mint apple (thumb and ring base), a- England st George (index and pinkie base plus ring detail and outlines on thumb and middle), nails Inc battersea (middle and detail on thumb) and rimmel roll in the grass (index middle and pinkie details). Oh and studs from i don't know where in index fingers. Lol.

Oh well. It's definitely bedtime i think. Hopefully my little pet brain cell will feel more able to construct sentence in the subject of dignity in mental health by tomorrow. Lol. x

40 great nail art ideas- teal

Hello I'm late again! Sorry, such disorganisation.

So this is the second week of this challenge and works slightly differently. Last week was a freestyle creative prompt and that will happen on alternate weeks. The other weeks, like this week, the theme will be a colour or similar. *but* there's a second half to the prompt and that's a pattern...and each participant starts at a different point in the pattern list. So while I'm doing teal brushstroke others will be doing teal dotticures or teal water marbles etc.

So yes. Teal brushstroke mani. I'll be honest, i really don't like this one. I like this style of manicure but this just didn't turn out that great imho. Partly in just grumpy cos every single one of my nails broke this week. They're now really short and i don't think that suits this style very well tbh because it's all very crammed in. Nvm.

Note the beautiful British autumn weather in the background haha. Snapped on the way to ringing because that's how much i cba with this mani lol.

Polishes are barielle 'a bouquet for ava', barry m 'almond', rimmel 'neon fest' (why do i own no opaque hot pinks? That would have helped lol) and model's own 'bronze rage'.

Anyway, next week the theme is geek which should be quite fun :). Check the in linkz to see what combinations everyone else got. x

40 great nail art ideas- hobbies

Yay a new challenge, fun :). It's all designed by The Crumpet and I'm seriously excited. But more on that in another post cos I'm also seriously lacking in words right now.

So the prompt is hobbies. Now I'm big on hobbies. I've had a lot of them lol.

Atm it's mainly bell ringing (thumb) that's taking over my life.

But i also read a lot, which is represented by my middle finger. The ring and index are both things i mean to do more but never do, play clarinet and swim.

Though the ring also represents music which i listen to ALL the time lol.

Have i run out of fingers yet? Oh little finger is the girl guide logo :).

Sorry my hands and nails are a bit scruffy atm but nvm :). Check out the inlinkz to see what the really clever people did :p.

Nails + bells = happy

Soo i love nails, i think that's fairly obvious lol. I also love bellringing...a lot. Even more than i love nails. It's always been a really healthy influence for me. I've been doing it about nine years now including during the time when i was most unwell. And I've met some great people and done some really fun and challenging things. People always go on about the importance of hobbies and i agree on that one.

But anyway, this isn't a sales pitch :p. Occasionally when I'm feeling silly and have some time to spare nails and ringing collide and i end up with fun but wildly geeky nail art. As follows lol.

I *think* i painted these for a ringing meeting last month. Sallies (the fluffy bits on the ropes) on index and pinky, a method (one of the specific patterns we ring - and one of the simplest) across middle and ring and 'that's all' on my thumb. 'That's all' is important because it means we're stopping and you can all hear yourselves think again :p. The thumb on my other hand said 'GO!' which is self explanatory lol. My handwriting needs some work but I'm pretty pleased with it :).

Polishes, polishes. Hmm. Barry m prickly pear on base. White would be barry m cotton, blue is nails Inc baker street and red is either nails Inc or rimmel i think. The black is probably nails Inc black taxi.

So these were for our association AGM. It was a special one this year celebrating a key ringing event/achievement, the first peal, which happened 300 years ago in Norwich. NDAR are the association initials (norwich diocesan association of ringers), the patterns are vaguely method like but not a real thing lol. The bells are the logo of an appeal to raise money for improvements to the local church where the first peal was rung. http://www.mancroftappeal300.co.uk/.

Polishes would be cotton again for the white. The green is possibly barry m cardamom but more likely a nails Inc that I've forgotten the name of lol.

Sorry excuse the hideous state of these, i didn't get round to photographing til the end of the day. These were got a meeting again. The three things we do are ring (hence the bell rope), talk (hence the writing- i do a lot of that since i have to take minutes, yawn lol) and most importantly, eat cake! Lol.

Think the base is probably prickly pear again? again black is black taxi, blue is baker street, white is cotton and red is whatever it was before lol. Think the pale pink and blue in the cupcake are barry m rosehip and elderberry but maybe not. I was pretty chuffed with the cupcakes cos they were stamping decals and whilst they're far from prefect they did actually work lol.

So there you go that's it for now. There's a meeting coming up soon though so who knows lol.

Nail dump!

Oh dear. It's been a while. I've been a bit all over the place (good and bad and working on being better lol) and pretty busy with reality and stuff too :). I've not been painting my nails do much and doing nail art even less but im working on changing that cos i do really enjoy it.
Anyway, for now here's a random selection of things i have been doing.

Purple :D. I quite liked these even though the stamping is off on my thumb and smudged on my ring haha. And i love the dark purple polish which is Barry m supersonic. I think the other purple is Barry m need for speed but not entirely sure.

These were random and not my usual style but one of my colleagues loved them so that was nice :). Barry m blood orange and nails Inc noho leather effect. And some random studs lol.

Excuse the cuticles :s. Two barry m i think- grapefruit and guava perhaps? Now this is more my style and i loved the colours.

I kind of really didn't like these. Not for any reason i just didn't lol. I'm not sure what the base is but i think it might be a ciate? Did they have them few with one of the magazines some time? Daisies are rimmel bee a honey and probably barry m cotton.

Bright! This was a while back when it was a bit early for neons but who cares lol. Barry m cotton for the dots. And model's own polish for tans of some kinds for the others.

Sorry the photos aren't great and the state of my hands and nails is variable (they're hideous atm too but im working on it lol).

Be back soon :).

Welcome to my world- feeling trapped

Oh dear i was meant to come back and post for SIAD oh well lol.

I've been thinking about the idea of feeling trapped a lot lately, it (or more to the point the avoidance of it) is one of the main droving forces in my life.

It's at the top of my mind right now largely because i totally flipped out a couple of weeks ago about how my life was going nowhere I'd been doing the same crap for years, not getting anywhere, not doing anything and nothing was ever going to change cos I can't cope with real life, a proper job, living on my own....I'm incapable, useless, stupid. Blah blah blah. Self indulgent crap. But what it came down to is feeling stuck. The feeling that there's no way out and nothing will ever change. Which was an odd thought, since I'm not particularly unhappy with my life right now.

None of that is really the point.
*rewind* lol.

So, I'm claustrophobic. I say that because it's a simple, tangible fact that's easy to understand. I don't like small spaces. Or, more accurately i don't like places that i can't easily get out of...so a small room with a large door is better than a large room with a tiny door for example. And don't get me started on trapdoors. Of course this is a slightly unfortunate trait for a bellringer since we seem to spend a great deal of our lives in pokey corners, up spiral staircases, hidden behind organs haha. Hilariously, loud noises make it worse. Ho hum.

So if we start from not liking to be in places that i can't easily get out of we can expand to not liking situations that i can't easily get out of. Social situations will always scare me for an abundance of reasons but one key one is the fact that they can be hard to escape. Particularly parties and things where it's seen as rude to leave when you've only just arrived. Waiting rooms are scary. So are other people's houses (erm katie, have you noticed what you do for a job?!), cinemas are borderline terrifying lol. Walking long distances is unnerving since it's not easy to get home quickly, likewise using public transport where you have to rely on timetables (incidentally this is one of the reasons i can cope with the tube, despite the fact it should horrify me lol). Years ago being stuck in a drip in hospital was horrendous.

What else can i say? Back to the job, despite my flippant comment re: other people's houses my job actually fits me pretty well. I rarely have to stay in one place for very long and the visits are set at a certain length so it's pretty easy to get away. We have a few folk who talk...a lot. I like chatting to them but it's very hard to escape at the end of the call. I dread those ones.

I find it very hard to stay put in one place for more than about an hour or maybe two (and that includes home). I have worked a couple of 'normal' jobs and i really struggled. Which is one of the reasons for the little meltdown and feeling trapped where i am. I am happiest when I'm moving.

That's the other thing about my job: i always have my car. I seriously love driving and have come to rely more and more on the sense of freedom it affords. I hate when i have to take my car in for service and such like. And i hate getting lifts. Admittedly travel sickness doesn't help with that haha...but I'm halfway convinced that a good proportion of that is caused by anxiety anyway (which of course because somewhat of a vicious circle- anxiety equals nausea, nausea equals anxiety about being nauseous and not being able to stop driving/pull over). Plus once arriving at the destination you're basically then stuck there until the driver wants to go home. I spend a lot of nights out as the designated driver haha. I just don't like not having my car. That's a little pathetic.

Hmm, i feel i may have over dramatised this point a little. Yes the trapped feeling hangs around most of the time and crops up in a lot of situations...but equally I'm pretty good at dealing with it for the most part, and at avoiding the worst of those situations (doing the job i do for example, or insisting on driving). Occasionally i struggle...if I'm tired, with people i don't know very well and can't trust yet or if I'm having a bad day, particularly if I'm feeling trapped by life in general as i was describing in the opening paragraph.

Then of course you're back to the vicious circle thing. The room gets very hot and I feel as if there's no air in the room, i struggle to concentrate on conversations or ringing or whatever I'm doing and my hands shake....which is quite embarrassing and intensifies the need to get out, run. More anxiety equals less air which leads to fun things like sweating and palpitations and hyperventilation and hysteria and the total lack of ability to pay attention to anything that's going on around me. Or sometimes i just check out and dissociate. It's fun. Memories of drifting off into unreality during a long bus ride in Mexico, of crying in the middle of a peal, struggling to breathe in any number of church towers, total panic attack during OU tutorials.

But again, not always. Lots of the time it's fine. It just annoys me that it controls so many of my decisions. Far more than any other 'issues' do. Saying that, i still do what i want to do a significant amount of the time, i ring, i get on planes, i graciously (or not lol) accept lifts.

Well that hopped about all over the place! And i still have no idea what i was wanting to say. But whatever, it's gotten very late and i seriously need to sleep!! Lol. x

Self Injury Awareness Day- the nails

Ah it's late! I have many things i want to say but not enough brain cells to string the sentences together. I will post a proper bit about SIAD tomorrow, for now just some nails.

The first ones i wore during the day, because i wanted something but didn't have time to do anything fancy. So that's just a base of Barry m pit stop with orange dots and self injury awareness ribbons in barry m mango.

The second i did when i got in tonight. Same base but this time i worked the awareness ribbon into a butterfly (to represent the butterfly project) using mango again, plus barry m satsuma. The lettering i think is self explanatory and in the same colours.

I'm sorry this is lame I'll be back with now pictures and hopefully more words as well. x
